The environmental law ambit is vast, diverse and dynamic, and covers practice areas such as biodiversity protection and conservation, natural resources sustainable use and management, pollution control, species and habitat protection, climate change mitigation, protected areas governance as well as environmental compliance and social safeguards.

Our firm is experienced in dealing with a diversity of clients such as international aid agencies, governments and their agencies, non-government organisations, foundations, private entities, and certification bodies. We work with in house expertise as well as other professional consultants towards developing and assessing legal and policy frameworks for our respective clients.

Preetha was called to the Bar in 1997. Starting out in the field of legal academics, Preetha soon found her way to her ultimate passion in life, environmental causes. Wanting to experience practical aspects of environmental conservation, Preetha joined a large national environmental conservation NGO leading and heading their environmental law and policy advocacy programmes.
After serving for many years there, Preetha resumed legal practice, armed with vast technical experience in the cross sectoral aspects of the environmental field and a deep understanding of institutional and legal aspects that underpin environmental workings in the country. These include the forestry sector, land use planning, the marine sector, international environmental treaty implementation, environmental governance, climate change, species protection, and conservation financing. In the last 10 years, her practice has involved consulting, advisories and legal opinions undertaken and rendered with regard to the environment at the Federal level, almost all States in Peninsular Malaysia and the Bornean States of Sabah and Sarawak. Legal provisions drafted by Preetha on Protected areas have set legal precedent.
Preetha was also, from 2018- 2021, appointed UNDP Malaysia Country Office’s Environmental Legal Expert working on diverse project portfolio across Peninsular Malaysia and the Bornean States. She is a Chevening Fellow in Environmental Governance and a former Sun Daily columnist providing commentary and observations environmental issues.
Steadfastly passionate about the environment but also deeply pragmatic, Preetha is constantly working towards finding workable and implementable solutions for all her clients and their stakeholders.
